Default I'm pretty sure my EX5000 PVR is fubared

I'm having some problems in flashing my new EX5000 PVR and i'm pretty sure that it is something wrong with the box unless you guys can suggest something else. I am pretty tuned in in relation to computers and I have been browsing the forums for some time and I have done a full search on my problem. Here we go.

I bought a brand new EX5000 PVR (with WD 120 GB HD installed).
Box connects to my tv no problem and the firmware on the box is the factory standard (I have also restored factory settings).

The main problem is that when I try to connect my box to my PC when I run the UFL programme and click download, select my COM port and OK nothing happens, the programme just says waiting for response from receiver.

Initially i tried connecting the box to my Vista PC using a USB serial converter and a null modem cable and the error occured. I have tried using all 4 COM ports (via device manager) and tried changing the bps settings on all 4 ports.

This made me think that it must be my USB serial converter (reading on the forums) so I tried flashing on an older XP PC with a serial port in the back and no luck. Again I tried all 4 COM ports (via device manager) and tried changing the bps settings on all 4 ports, still no luck.

So I thought that it must be my null modem cable so today I went out and bought a brand new one and tried using that and the same bloody thing happens 'waitning for a response from the reciever'. At the moment I have only tried it on my Vista PC via the USB serial converter but I am going to try it on the older PC (with XP) tonight.

I am massively frustrated at the moment and I was just posting to see if I had missed anything obvious but I have tried everything suggested on various forums and nothing is working so I am assuming that there is some problem with the rs232 port on the back of my box.

Any help/advice would be great and might stop me throwing my PVR out of the window.

Thanks in advance

I had a similar problem when I bought a "thebox pvr"

I switched the box off at mains

clicked download and then switched on the box

It then flashed ok

may not work on your box but I scratched my head for ages doing
what you are doing and getting nowhere

has to be worth a shot

hope it helps

Hi We had the same problem using the USB, so in the end we just attached the null modem cable directly into the back of the pc and the box and it downloaded perfectly!! We have relegated our usb serial cable to the bin!!!!!!!!!! Hope this helps.
