Question Eurovox pvr the one?

In Dublin, and looking to buy for the first time. Was thinking Starview, but I'm leaning towards the Eurovox ex500 pvr now.

Firstly, I assume that this box works good in Dublin?

How good is the pvr? Is it worth the extra €€€ to buy the HD with the box? Looks like a very nice option. I only have a VCR(!) which we use a lot for taping fav programs to watch later at night etc. I assume that the pvr can replace this?

If "recording" station X, is it possible to watch station Y, or is that only possible with the Starview Pvr?

Finally where to buy? Two on my shortlist are Lincats's Nick Nacks and iwantabox. Is that a definitive list? Any sellers in Dublin?

Thanks for any advice anyone can offer. I'm sure I have loads of learning to do in the coming months - looking forward to joining the community here and hopefully will be able to offer some assistance myself some time in the future...

The pvr is great but you can only tape what you are watching as it only has a single tuner in the box,you can however watch and tape something else provided its on the same frequency.

I've sent a few to Dublin, so they definitely work there. The postage is considerably cheaper for the slimline ex1000 if you're not bothered about the HDD

Hi Lincast,

Was on to you a few days back via email. Thanks for replying to that, there doesn't appear to be many places who are bothered replying back to email queries. Kind of makes you wonder why they publish their 'Contact Us' email address at all!

The ex1000 looks nice, and I have a fetish for anything that has blue glowing lights! However I read that there's a lack of buttons on the unit? I don't like having to rely on remotes, especially with young kids around they don't last too long!

As a matter of interest, what is the postage on the EX500 pvr 1) without HDD 2) with HDD ??

One thing that I've learnt here is that there's been issues with getting HDD's working in the EX500 pvr. Seems like there's a limited number of drives that will only work (Seagate & Western Digital). What would happen if a HDD packed in 12 months down the road, and those few 'compatible' drives were no longer available? Perhaps they'll bring out an updated model with better HDD support? Has there been any mention of this anywhere?

Even some of the Non-compatible HDD can be modded to fit - by clipping some plastic tabs off the drive.

Ex5000 S&H to the republic is £21.50
