Hi All,
I've been trying to put my hitachi 79 into mobe b the other day and was unsuccesful

Using Slax 2.1 (tried 2.0 alpha as well), slax disk boots goes throught the many msgs and prompts then ends with the login screen. However along the way no "spinning up disc"?? Can anyone help? I've tried turning on the xbox at different times in all possible combinations, tried all sata slots, raid drivers disabled, updated sata drivers. Have no clue what the problem can be? I am using an onboard sata port..do you think this is a problem? Anyone any advice. Thanks

I find that using a VIA SATA chipset works best. Is your drive detected during bootup?

I tried ordering the via sata chipset on the net but wherever i look it seems to be sold out. Maybe you know of a place where i can purchase one? I actually did not look for it being detected, i figured once in mode b it can only then be detected. Should it appear right at bootup with the other devices or would it appear during the runnig of the linux program? Thanks in advance blakey

That's what you need mate, I use the same one and I have flashed numerous Samsung, Hitachi & BenQ drives with ease. You can get it cheaper from Hong Kong but you will be waiting a couple of weeks rather than a couple of days.

Here's how I put my Hitachi into ModeB:

1) Connect Sata cable from DVD drive to Sata port on PC
2) Power on PC
3) Power on XBox 360
4) Boot from Slax CD (I use version 2.1 as the older versions don't seem to work well - download it here: _http://rs41.***************/files/8454344/pSlax21.iso)
5) Let Slax load and you should get a message on-screen saying "Spinning up disk". When you get this, eject the disc tray of the Hitachi and Slax will continue to load.
6) Turn off the PC (leave the XBox 360 powered on) and remove the Slax disc.

If you did all this right, your drive should be detected in Windows and you can get on with flashing it.

You should never use the 360 to power the dvd drive while the sata cable is disconnected this is now know that MS can check a log which would have this on record it may be one of there ways to ban peoples consoles.

I will get that ordered in and I will give u some feedback within a couple of days!! Hopefully with this sata card it will be all down hill from now. Some good games coming out soon might as well be prepared..hehehe...What game you playing now? Any recommendations? I actually saw mass effect on pc, graphics look pretty good how is the game play? any idea?

Erm i've been playing GTA4 and Dark Sector and i'm planning on downloading a few new games like Mercenaries 2, Saints Row 2 and GOW2

I've bought a couple but they are expensive. It would cost me nearly £200 to buy 4 or 5 games which is exortionate.
