No, you must use a steel pole, as the aluminum one will not be strong enough and bend in the wind

Not possible to answer really, as it depends on the loading on it and the gage of the aluminium. The other problem with an aluminium pole is that it could crush when you put the clamp on.

Personally I would always stick to a heavy gage steel pole, such as a scaffold.

Mine is a aluminium scaffold pole.It is at least 1/4 inch thick,it seems strong enough.

PS. I think that aluminium scaffold poles will be will be an alloy. They have to be strong

Normal steel scaffold poles are only 4mm thick, but all I presume would have to be to the British standards, thus maybe the thicker gage aluminium.

Robbo.I have just measured a spare one that I have.It is as you say 4 mm.
It is the short type with the flat end that go'es into the brickwork.
But it is definitly aluminium.

short length of scaffold pole will work if you have a set of t&k brackets up and will be better
