It should be possible, maybe you have to keep trying the forced update till it takes, otherwise maybe its possible to put a dump on the chip, did the other guy with the same problem have any luck ?

There was another bloke in the other cable box section having the same problem with an ex cw box, i did post you you must have missed it, in the old days you used to have to remove chips and read and reprogramme them with a willem programmer, hence chipping the box as people still say, you still have to do this on a v+ box or fit a new blank chip, you could probably do yours that way but its not easy, lots of small legs to resolder etc.
I dont know why it wont update unless its because its a davic or docsis system incompatability.

OK - if it's a complex thing i'd rather not mess with it...it wasn't important anyway

To be honest your better off to swap for right box, especially if you may destroy it trying to fix it, anyway its not your problem now you have got rid of it

it could also be the simm board on a pace 1000 not secured properly or dirty contacts, ive had many like this ......try that but err 3 can be fatal on a box its to do with the non volitile memory on the box being corrupt. i have heard of some people that have replaced the nvram chip and all is well but yanno

i got another box with same prob...i cleaned the simm and chips with petrol, dried it and it started working...for a bit - then err3 again...

So what you're telling me it cannot be fixed then?

Oh and whats non volitile memory? The memory on the board apart from the simm?
