Default Newbie looking for info

Hey,

I am not entirely new to all this but am looking for some pretty basic info. I am familar with the use of the Dreambox, Starbox, Eurovox etc in Ireland whereby users purchase the basic NTL package and then gain access to all the pay channels etc. What I want to know is if there is a solution you can use with freeview in the UK. If not is there a box that works with the basic Virgin Cable package. I am basically after all the Sky and Setanta sports channels.

Thanks in advance.

Dreambox, StarVIEW, Eurovox & DBoxes can be used to do this. Or, you could buy an NTL box from eBay and mod that. All of these boxes will give you the channels that you want .

Just to confirm Blakey, I don't even need to get the basic Virgin package. The boxes will work off Freeview to give me all the channels I want?

No mate. You need a live cable feed into your box. Why not take a minimum VM sub? VM get a new customer, they get to put in their adverts that subscriber numbers are on the up & you've got Sport any time you want it.
Only my tuppence worth.

Or you could just sign up just for their phone package and then use your modded box as you are given a live cable feed into your home - it works for me .

How hard would it be to modify the Eurovox EL1000 SL so as to work like this Blakey? Is it just a case of getting the correct cables and loading on the correct software?
