The problem with signatures is they can clutter up the thread and make the forum look messy.
Theres also an issue for the poor sods still on dial up in that it can lead to impossibly long page loading times. Plus it all adds to the bandwidth usage costs which someone has to pay for - which would you prefer? - no sigs and the forum stays free - sigs allowed but the forum has to go subscription as the bandwidth costs have gone through the roof

Got to admit, I'd much prefer no signatures at all - makes threads much easier to read. However, I've been bludgeoned into allowing some signature use, but I really want to avoid it going too crazy - certainly at present!
Besides, some of the more creative signatures can rely on imported coding, and at present I'm very keen to ensure no further potential security issues come up. Hope that helps a bit.
