Hi guys,
At the moment, I am using V!rgin media as my ISP and I'm thinking of getting a Starview 3 box and connect it up. However, the way my cable was installed, I don't have a white box that hides away the cable. Instead, I have a silver box that looks like a 2/3 way splitter that connects the underground cable and my internet cable. I know i'll be needing a splitter to use both internet and starview but what I wanted to know is, are the silver boxes the same? i.e. would I able to replace the current silver box with a splitter? thanks in advance to any replies

*********UPDATE
Just an update on the situation. Ok, so I got my splitter first, just waiting for my box. But what i've gone ahead and done is replaced the current silver box (Tratec, TRIS-102A - Fully Isolated System Outlet) with the splitter and connected my internet up and it still works. Im hoping that when I connect up my box everything will be fine. My question now is, will my cable service be ok without this silver box? Picture of the box below.....

yeah, you shouldnt have any probs if you've got a quality splitter.

Yes you can replace it but its there for a reason. It help to stop overvoltage and reduce hum/interference. You can remove and use the splitter or you can use both...just have coax coming from the "silver box" to the splitter you bought.

You really should not remove the isolator,it a legal requirement that VM fit this it is there for protection. The isolator should be coming from the drop box where the cable comes into the house and the splitter should be after this. Maplins do the splitters and any ready made cable that you may need. I use my box with VM, you can run the VM box from the cable output on the starview3, you will loose any interactive features and the modem light will flash on the VM box but you will get whatever channels you should get on the box.
