Default Changes to existing install

Hello All,

We have 3 dishes, one on 13E (Hotbird), 7W (NileSat) and 28E(Astra).
I would like to install 20 x Dreambox DM 600 PVR-S unites in 20 different rooms. Each box needs to access all 3 SAT's individually.
So if Mr x changes channels in his room, Mr Y wont be effected - hope this makes sense.
At the moment I have each sat connected to a Kathrein VWS 500 Amplifier.

Now my questions:
Can I install say only one DiSEqC switch to feed all 3 sat's into, then from the out put daisie change my wall connection to each room? (See attached drawing)
Or would I have to have an individual
DiSEqC for each room?

In both cases what would the maximum cable lengths be before having to amplify them again?

Thank you in advance for any help,
Coral

Domestic kit wont work in this situation. You are going to have to install some proper switch gear of the sort used by the professionals for hotel installs.

Hello Analoguesat,

Thank you for your reply, I realize I will need some more professional equipment. The majority I do have but I would like to know if by connecting my wall sockets in parallel, will I loose signal strength and also will each of the rooms be able to select and watch a different program fed from a different sat at the same time?

Cheers,
Coral

Wont work.

A lnb is an active device that has 4 possible states

hi band V
hi band H
lo band V
lo band H

the polarities are switched by a 13/18V voltage change, whist the hi/lo band is switched by a 22khz tone that is either on or off

So considering just one dish with one lnb:

If someone in room C is watching a channel that is 18V / 22khz tone on then the lnb will switch to the highest state and nothing anyone else does will affect it - the other rooms will only be able to watch a channel on the same band / polarity. So for example if someone switches to a porn channel on the high band everyone else loses Dr Who on the BBC!

Each room needs its own feed from each dish & you need to speak to a decent installer as it gets very complicated very quickly indeed - especially as you want multiple dishes involved!

Hi, there are many configurations to do what you want, a simple way would be to use a 13 in 20 out multiswitch (if one exists) together with quattro LNBs.

The good thing about quattro LNBs is that you CAN split the outputs (amplifier reccomended) to run two multiswitches in parallel.

More info here:-

Multiswitch. Multiswitches to be used with a quatro LNB. Satellite Superstore UK. Big Discounts.

(13 in 20 out multiswitch, which can work with quads also)

Thanks Analoguesat,

That answer my question, I am going to have to go with 1 DiSEqC for each room connected to all three SAT's then.
Unfortunatly this just means allot more cable runs
Something like my next drawing.

Thanks again,
Coral

Hello robbo71,

Thanks for the links, so with this multiswitch I should be able to have my three SAT's come into one central location and then just run one COAX to each individual room?

yes but not sure how to configure them after that i presume you setup the receiver to distinguish each sat

Wait until nanochickin logs in - he installs multiswitches as part of his job and may be able to give you a better ide of what you need or at least what is possible.....

Either way you do it your going to need a sh!t load of cable

Can't say i've ever had to send signals from 3 sats into a system, although i have got a good idea how it can be done.

If it was 2 sats it would be easier as you could just setup a 9 wire IRS setup (IRS = Integrated reception system)

Basically for 3 sats and to keep cost down your going to need 3 compact switches like the one pictured below, it has 24 outputs but it will be cheaper than going down the launch amp & cascadable switches route

You will basically have to change each lnb on each dish for a Quattro lnb with individual polarity outputs (VL, VH, HL, HH)

You then connect each lnb to the appropriate inputs on each switch. Using this type of switch You will also be able to add terrestrial UHF/DVB onto the system if you use a combined SAT/UHF socket

This compact switches should be in the most central point between all the rooms to get the best results.

Each output from each switch can then be fed to each room where you will need to install a DISEqC switch which should work as if each input on it was connected directly to an lnb rather than an output on each switch

I can't guarantee that this will work as i've never tried it, but there is no reason why it shouldn't

You can also do it in a similar way using 3 IRS satellite launch amps and some cascadable switches, although the first method will be cheaper and also neater.
