Default Newbie - Receiving satellite thru old tv!

Hello everyone, keen newbie here!

I recently moved into a new flat and plugged in my old Bush 14inch tv to an aerial socket that I found on the wall. When I switched to a different freqency band (i.e. not UHF) called Band 3 on the tv tuner, I was able to tune in to various channels such as Eurosport, UK Gold, Paramount Comedy etc, which are not freeview channels. In addition it also found various other channels including Sky Sports channels which I assume were scrambled, as I could hear the sound clearly, but could not see the picure properly!

First question is are these satellite channels and secondly how do I go about viewing the scrambled channels, if indeed it is possible??

Underneath the aerial socket on the wall is a square white box which was originally plugged into the aerial socket and the box has two additional socket type things on the bottom. I assume this would previously have been connected to a set top box of some sort?

Any help as to what is going on and how I can get the scrambled channel, i.e. what do I need to buy, would be greatly appreciated.

Awesome thanks!

So is there any way I can unscramble the channels that currently seem to be scrambled, like the sports channels??

I realise this thread is now in the wrong forum, as it is Cable, not satellite!
