You don't need the original firmware on the modem.
some firmwares wont allow flashing over Ethernet. the best and fastest way is to use max232 with /p command. you can also use softjtag with max232 but this is slow and sometimes crashes bricking the modem then you will need blackcat. blackcat is the safest way to install firmware but is also the slowest. I normally use blackcat to flash a bootloader with /p then use max232 and terminal to flash the modem.

ok me mate took the modem to his house and the dam thing won't work, i'm going to have a look at it tomorrow.
So if i get a blackcat load the bootloader onto it (where do i get this) and then also buy a max232 for putting the firmware on it? i think the best way is to upgarde this dam modem.......what you think?
