Default New boy with idiot questions

Hello all. Apologies in advance for the inane questions but I know nothing about satellite tv except that i'd like to have it !!

Just been given an old 1.8m dish by a neighbour and would like to have a go at setting it up to receive freesat.

It came with the mounting gear but no rods that hold the LNB to the dish and no LNB.

Firstly,am I being hopelessly optimistic about getting this thing going ?

If not where do I buy these rods. Do they have to be specific to the dish or are they a generic thing ?

How do I mount them correctly or know that I have mounted them correctly ?

What LNB do you recommend for getting freesat on the Costa Blanca ?

That'll do for now.

Cheers,

Hi,

With a 1.8m dish you may be lucky and be able to receive from Astra 2D in your location.(Astra 2D carries BBC ITV etc)

Have a look at this map:-

Before buying sat equipment...

For the dish to work, you will need tofind out where the focal point is and to stick the approprate LNB there.

If you post a picture of the dish someone may recognise and be able to tell you what make it is , so you could get spares. f you have a prime focus dish, finding the focal point should be relatively easy, based on its diameter and its depth. You could make arms out of metal rods of some sort.

Thanks Robbo,

Picture will have to wait 'til tomorrow or beyond....it's raining stair rods here at present !! I'll also try asking the lad that gave me it what he knows about it, but I think it came with his house. I'm encouraged though, at least you didn't call me a nutter and the map suggests there's an outside chance, so as long as the experiment doesn't cost me too many arms and legs I'm sticking with it !

cheers

If you are not a nutter, you won't be able to do it.

Hopefully it is a prime focus, as the focus is in the centre. With an offset dish, finding it would be more difficult.
