Default O2 Ireland will not upgrade any phone until 2009

Unbelievable . . . . I'm gobsmacked.

I am a pay-monthly customer with a Sony K800i. I was eligible for an upgrade since June last but do not wish to change my phone.

Last weekend the volume has gone from my phone, I can barely hear it ringing even though it is at full volume. I logged onto the O2 website to order the same phone again, but found I am no longer eligible for an upgrade.

I rang their customer services who advised that due to the large number of upgrade phones issued over the summer, O2 have put a stop to upgrades until after Xmas.

Called to an O2 shop today and they told me that they reckoned upgrade freeze was for this month only and to go back to them next month.

They, like everyone in this country, are only out to rip us off. I am only pay as you go, but a friend is bill pay, I must tell him.

None of the phone company's here, or in the UK, are owned by Irish or UK owners and I very much doubt the comreg would want to ruffle their feathers. They are as toothless as a hen and don't give a sh!t about the consumer. We are all supposed to get at least 28kbps on dialup, we only get 3.2 and we have tried to get comreg to sort it out, but they do not want to upset the big boys in eircom and we are stuck without broadband and will never get it, not on the shared lines we have to put up with.

Very best regards Wez

Just to let you know - went back to the shop yesterday and they 'upgraded' my phone for me. €49 to get the exact same phone as I already had.

Lucky by name and nature, they took a gold upgrade from me, now telling me I am not entitled for 2 months, They gave some people back their upgrades early this month, but now seem to be taking them away again, really not impresssed with them.

Try in a shop on Sat next ie the start of the month and some of my luck might rub off on ya.

Your gold upgrade will be given back to you, their monthly upgrade quota seems to be falling way short of demand atm.

Tried that on Sat and Mon, two different shops, was basically told tough, might be entitled to an upgrade in January!!!! Apparently my gold was not officially approved, need some reference number of some sort, have been with them 11 years, never heard of a reference number. so have to wait till Jan to find out what the story is.

Just checked on o2, says I am entitled to a silver upgrade, 2 months ago I was entitled to a gold, about 70 Euro more in the difference to the phone I was interested in, have emailed them wondering where my gold has gone, will see what happens, have already told them that I will change companies, their response - ah well, sorry to see go!!!! dont think there is much loyalty there.
