max 232 / sb5101e

Got a max232 and disk off eBay. Connected it up, get a little green light on which I presume means connected, connected hyperterminal via com1 to it, and cycled power on the modem, and nothing in hyperterminal - I believe I'm supposed to see data in there (but knowning me I've emm done summit wrong). Before I go and buy a b/kat from the same guy on eBay, has anyone got any clues?

even my blackcat cable wont detect modem.

can i suggest something , this might seem silly but i have to do on my laptop before i try reading/writing anything.

before connecting power to modem,go to device manager & go to that port > disable it & then enable it > connect power to modem & try again

ud a been better of builduing 1 from the haynes manual in downloads...

anyway what settings are u using in hyper terminal...

not sure about surf but see attch check these connection properly if this is same????? think is>

u sure its a 5101 and not a 5001 or a 4101?????

i like to build my cables cuz as long as u know the schematics are right--its going to work/

Have you tried connecting the Blackcat without the ground connected? Bought one from Ebay, when ground was connected, wouldnt detect the modem, once disconnected, worked like a charm.

nice 1 mohibr i remeber that in future just in case.......though if its not grounded cant it damage it??

Shouldnt be a problem, have done mine a few times, no probs.
