Hi Guys,
I recently bought a motorised system from southern satellite (top guy) and got a local satellite guy to install it for me. It is working perfectly for 28.2 & 19.2 but when I try and move it to 13 it doesnt pick up any channels (must be just slightly off 13). The guy who installed it has some serious equipment (6k sat finders etc), but surely if it picks up 28.2 & 19.2 it should be fine picking up 13? Don't think these guys have done many motorised setups but I will be getting them back out - anyone any suggestions on what tips i should be giving them or asking them? 1 meter dish, dreambox 500s, DiSEqC 1.2 Motorised H-H Motor Cheers Guys |

Hi,
I assume that you are using DiSEqC 1.2 for the motor, in which case you need to find all the satellites around the arc in turn and store their positions. If using GotoX or USALS it should just work, when set up, if it doesn't it may not have been set up correctly and not tracking the arc. It is possible to get 19.2E and 28E but not 13E if the arc is way off, but quite difficult as 13E is very strong.

Thanks for the quick responses.
I assume I am using DiSEqC 1.2 as there is no lat or long degrees entered. I think the guys just got the motor to drive to 28.2 then moved the dish to 28.2 using the sat finder they had - they had to fine tune it again for 19.2. Do they need to start initially at Thor (Drive motor to 1 W then use sat finder to lock onto it?) And if so will the rest of the satellites just work off that? Really appreciate the help guys. |

Heres a quote from kerrywez
"What satellite you use to set up your motor is determined by your location, more to the point, your longitude. For anyone near the meridian line, i.e. 0 Degrees, the Thor sat at 1W would be the nearest sat to due south from that position. The sats vary as you go east or west, my own rotor is set up on 8W, as my location is close to 10W, so 8W is the nearest sat to my due south." Once they have that done the sat should arc pretty well with a few fine tweaks etc. Have you tried to move the dish yourself via the diseq i.e. west and east move it slowly each way until the signal comes in. |

Have a quick read through the sticky threads, regarding setting up a motor, in the Satellites FAQ section:
Satellite FAQs - Techwatch: Satellite TV forums, FTA, Cable, Hardware, & Tech forums This should provide you with a lot of useful information, and possible questions to ask your installer. |

Thanks guys - Yeah I have tried moving the motor manually ever so slightly to try and pick up 13. The dish mustn't be on the arc by the sounds of it?

Make sure you pick an active transponder on 13E, remember all the Multivision transponders have disappeared off there.

Cheers Robbo,
Im a newbie to all this - is there a list of active transponders for 13E? I remember the guy showing me the signal strength for 13E on his high tech monitor and it was showing just as strong as 19.2 & 28.2 which are working ok. Thanks |

Hot Bird 6/7A/8 at 13.0°E - LyngSat will help you out
by the sound of it they didn't align it on the nearest due south satellite 1west i wont matter if you can get 28e and then 19e as these are high power satellite so the dish will still pick them up if it is misaligned slightly |
