Default satellite receiver/setup advice please!

Hi all, I am after some advice as to which reciever to buy , i currently have a starview cable box , but would like to switch to sat` HD . We have a dish installed (sky fixed dish) and was hoping to get a box which would be compatable with this for now , maybe upgrade to motorised later .
Was thinking of buying a freesat HD box £150, but could posibly stretch to £250 if extra channels justifie it .

Would like to watch sports in HD , and if possible 3pm saturday football without the need for subscriptions . Also what channels am i likely to get with the fixed dish please or would it be sensible to start afresh with a new dish
Any advice please guys , and thanks in advance

If you want just your BBC, ITV and CH4 in Hd then a freesat box is fine. But when you want sports in HD etc especially footie at 3pm you'll have to subscribe to there service.

If I was to suggest a HD receiver it would have to be the dreambox 800 HD but your talking 359.99.

The dreambox could be setup to unlock certain channels but unfortunatley I never really use mine for anything bar c/s.

And finally your dish will be fine for freesat but if you want to unlock other channels etc your best bet would be motorised 80 cm have a chat to southernsatellite m8 he'll hook ya up

Hope this helps

For starters you aint going to get any 3pm Saturday football with the current fixed dish no matter what you attach to it. You will get channels carried on the Sky UK platform - and if you want to watch that you subscribe - end of story.

Whilst some pay tv services are currently available because of compromised encryption systems - which allows footy fans to watch games they will not be open forever - one is going secure soon when an encryption change programme is completed. SO its quite possible that there wont be any 3pm's available without a subs to a foreign pay provider (NOT CHEAP if you have to use a UK based reseller - foe example the Sky Italia package costs over a grand a year from UK sources!)

With the current dish you have the choice of a Sky box,a Freesat box,or a non Sky non Freesat fta box. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.

Thanks for replies guys , any idea how the Technomate TM 6800 HD compares to the dreambox 800 HD , can they both pretty much get the same content with a motorised dish, also which is the most user-friendly as i am new to this,

Is it possible to get a subs package from abroad , rather than paying rip-off britain prices,

Thanks for taking the time to reply Cauli and Analog , much appreciated

The TM will be the most user friendly by a long way - there is a VERY steep learning curve associated with the purchase of any Linux box.

Yes you can get a package from abroad - if you can speak the lingo or have contacts out there who will subscribe for you..
