Depends what you want to do with it.
If you want to change your MAC you need to make sure you have appropriate firmware for the modem in question.

What modem do you want to connect to? Just buy the correct cable for that modem with the MAX232.
You should get a CD-ROM with ALL the firmwares for all cable modems as well as step by step instructions. It really couldn't be easier.

All you need to do is download the 250 Configurator and enter username password and change the mac and config file, and set it up for your area and your away.

Try different MACS. Make sure force cfg is ticked and make sure you didn't enter a 2 Mbps cfg instead of a 20 Mbps one.
Or use a MAC thats assigned to a 20 Mbps and it will work fine.

The only thing I can think of as to why you went from 20 to 2Mbps is because the modem may have been downgraded to a lower spec package from the CC by the customer...

You tell me. Whoever you purchased it off should have give you the user and password.

Try username admin and password infinite

If it is still that, I suggest you change it pronto.

The RS232 adapter actually has 4 cables which connect through a header to a 5 pin connection on the Ambit modems - but you do usually need to change the firmware before you can do anything else.

I believe that the 200 firmware uses different login details to the 250 and is actually more like the SB5100 firmware
