Default I'm new to cable, advice please

hi guys/gals

i am moving within the next week or two to a area that has cable

what i want to know is:

1. TV....... from what i read cable/virgin media can be "chipped" or use a diffeerent decoder, is that correct and what channels will i get?

2. Broaband..... my brother had a chipped modem a while ago. do these still work? ifso where can i get one or the chip as im handy enough with a soldering iron to fit my self. what connection speed will it get? 20mb?

3. Also i think i read you need to take some kind of service to enable a live feed to the house, is this correct and what the cheapest?

i have dabbled with satelite stuff(dreambox/hotbird) before so know the basics.

cheers

You get a eurovox of fleabay mate, they are more less plug & play .You will get all vm channels(Check their site for a list) except on-demand

you can get a vm/ntl flashed(Chipped) modem from fleabay for about 20quid,you need to put a mac on it which is easy to do.
yes you can get top speeds with a chipped modem

The feed coming into the house will more likely be live so you wont need to subscribe to any services but some recommend you get the cheapest/smallest tv package

good luck

na mate you wont get caught, they can only see the cable box if talkback is on but there is no talkback on a eurovox so no need to worry... I think you get about a 10 year sentence if caught though, lol, only kidding i havent a clue what would happen, prob get a fine or something.

Modems , as far as i know they cant pin point a chipped modem.

For macs you use a piece of software to get you macs, you then swap them with someone in your city, there is websites for doin this.
