Default Dreambox 500S

Hi,

New to the satellite thing here having previously been a Eurovox user. I was considering getting a Dreambox 500s (mainly due to the price). Is it a good box. What can the newer models do that the 500s can't? I'm not really too fussed about PVR functionality, just receiving channels.

Cheers.

The DM500S can do everything your Eurovox plus it lets you view tv through pc, record to a network share and possible a few other things depending on wether you have satellite or cable. The dreambox requires a lot of reading and patience at the begining but well worth it in the end.

Great. I have satellite now as I've moved house and am unable to get cable anymore. Why are the new models so much more expensive in that case, apart from the PVR stuff? Are the software updates/plugins/etc different for each model or universal for all Dreamboxes?

Also, can anyone point me in the direction of a reputable dealer so I don't end up with a clone please.

Thanks.

_http://www.satstore.co.uk/

Hes an authorized retailer for Dream Multimedia. I had my DM7020 off him.

Hes also has excellent after service too

Not sure if he still supplies the 500 though. I doubt if you will find a genuine one anywhere in all honesty

They were replaced by the DM500+ and the 600PVR

Cheers Nano.

I read elsewhere that the clone 500S's available are as good as the originals. Do you know if that's true?

Hi Rojo, its not quite true that the 500s does everything that the c version does. For a start, the uk satellite channels are not cracked the way that the cable channels are. Some continental channels are cracked but they do change quite frequently and need regular updates.

If you are not concerned about a secondhand box, it might be worth looking out for a 7000s because it will do a lot more than the 500 model.

Thanks Jim.

What are the main differences between the 500s and 7000s, bearing in mind that I'm not really interested in PVR functionality?
