Default Help! I don't know if i've bricked it!!!

I have a SB5100, which I brought over from NI to Plymouth last week, and have spent the past week fighting it.

I had it connecting once, which then would connect for about 10 mins, then reboot, and hold for 10 - reboot and so on.

After searching for macs, and other things, I thought I'd bricked it, but all I'd done was set the modem mac as the ethernet card's mac, so managed to fix that having thought about it, and now since switching it, my Received light just flashes.

Since I've just moved to Plym, I don't know anyone who can help with my modem probs, so hoping someone on here can give me some advice.

I think I may have changed a setting within the actual config page, which is now stopping it connecting, so if someone has any screenshots which would be handy, or know of anyway to switch back to default settings, I would be ever grateful!

Thanks in advance.

Not to make you sound stupid here, but I have to ask to make sure its a modem problem.

Are you splitting the cable coming in, if so how many times is it being split from the wall?
Have you double checked your SNR and frequencies and made sure they are set correctly?
Have you done any other diagnostics to make sure its not your signal going to the modem, if so which diagnostics have you done?

It was receiving a signal the other day, then all of a sudden its stopped, and I can't help thinking its because i've changed a setting.

The modem is split once, from the front room (where it comes into the house) to the dining room where the modem is.
I have two frequencies at the minute, and both I have tried under Europe. Both haven't worked.

I don't know how to do the diags, since I wasn't the one who did the modem, I'm just the (l)user.

I am Tech minded, but since I've no clue about the modem side of things, I'm going to try and give as much info as possible.

I've also tested the line, which is fine, since the TV works, but thats all I have to test it with.

I would prefer to find someone in plym who could do this, as £40 for internet is fine, or even £20 to sort it out.
My fault, so don't mind getting it sorted.

so you have copied your pc's nic's mac and typied it into your modem?
is that right....

Yeah, originally, but I put the modem onto another PC after I thought about what I'd done, and just set the mac to a random one, which undid the first mistake.

Hi all,

I have a question for you all... Should be fairly simple...

Right, i've been trying to sort out my modem, and someone has advised me to do a few commands.

I'm ok on executing the commands, however, when I'm trying to perform "clear_device" (without the speech marks) it comes up saying default [no] which is understandable, but one thing I can't seem to get to work, is executing this as yes.

Any ideas?

To try and help a little more...

When entering in the webshell, under Broadcom Shell Command: clear_device
I get the following:
Code:
Instance: CableModem EventLog NonVol Settings (0x8074c034)

This will permanently clear/wipe out settings all from the device!
How do I select yes to the above?

Also, once i've put in the clear_device string, it seems to freeze the modem, or should i be being patient around then, and waiting till it reboots itself or something?

Sorry guys, but am lost without my 20mb, and 2mb is killing me!!!
Are you sure? [no]
