Hi Everyone,
I am looking at buying a Eurovox, I currently get Broadband from NTL/virgin media which goes into my house in my bedroom via a white NTL box on the wall . However there is currently a old white box downstairs behind my Telly, which Ideally I would like to conect the eurovox too. but preferably leave the Boradband going upstairs I have tried connecting my Boradband to that box, but get nothing, so I suspect the downstairs one has been disconnected. what are my options? Should I call NTL and ask them to come out and move broadband to the downstairs BOX (I think they will cut off upstairs supply) and then If I split the cable coming out of the box, 1 to modem, 1 to Eurovox. I think they may charge for doing this, but when I phone NTL/Virgin I gat somone in a foriegn call centre who has no idea what I am talking about. Can anyone help with the best way this can be resolved, and the reason I can give them for me wanting this done. Last edited by neomoppy; 03-10-08 at 03:15 PM. |

what they normally do is, if you have had the ntl box moved upstairs then they will disconnect from outside(opposite where your box is downstairs and connect to the cable going up the wall, so you are right that one behind the TV will be dead but all I do is get a splitter and make a 20mm f to f connector connect the main lead to the other two on the splitter and it will be live again, thats all they will do if they come out.

Sorry just to clarify
should there be a wire going from my downstairs box, through the wall, and just not connected to anything, and there is a wire going from my upstairs box, to outside down the wall to NTL/Virgin? If thats the case I just need to cut the wire on the outside near downstairs and put in a splitter one going to the existing wire upstaire, the other going to the wire for the downstairs BOX? or i the wite boxes do nto do anything, then do I simply need to split the working cable outside, and send it through my wall to the Eurovox, not going to a white box at all? |

be discrete if you are going to mess outside with the cable,if need be, and I know its a pain spilt from upstairs and like me I chiselled the wall for the new cable and chased it downstairs. Much more secure. just start tracing the cable you will find the connection outside somewhere. Vermin_Killa |

Hi there just to clarify, The cable came up through the pavement and went through the wall to the box downstairs behind my telly, This was later changed and NTL came out and Cut the cable just before it camer into the house, fitted a straight conecter and sent it higher up, coming through the wall to a white box inside in my Bedroom. (this al happened before I moved in)
so at the moment there is a loose cable sticking out outside going to the donstairs box, I can not simply conect a conector to it as NTL crimped the end of it, I will need to cut that off, and join it to the existing joint with a splitter. (I may need to piece a small piece of cable in to make it reach after cuting off the crimped end. Or would you just suggegt coming from the 2nd output of the box upstairs (do both outputs work?), comign back outside, and down the wall and back, next to the white box downstairs, and plug what I need to into it? (in effect totally ignoring the box which is downstairs), it will mean and extra hold in the walls, but we have only recently had the walls skimmed, so didn;t fancy running the wire internally, and chasing walls etc. Last edited by neomoppy; 27-10-08 at 04:53 PM. |

I would split it from the outside.
so you will need a splitter and some male to female `F` connectors then reconnect to the piece of cable sticking out of the wall, just did one of these yesterday ! best way m8 |

O.K great, do they just use Coax Cable? as becuase they crimped the end over I may be a little short, so may have to put a small piece of cable in to extend it enough.
Last question, I have never fitted connectors to Coax cable, is it straight forward? thanks for all the advise too, you have been a great help. And it means I willbe able to use the eurovox soon. Also is it legal to use a Eurovox with PVR to watch freeview channels, and record them? |

buy all the connectors and splitter from ebay and buy a small length of coaxial too easy to assemble.
the f connectors are threadded one end so you just splice the cable about 10 mm back then remove about 8 mm of the plasic center to reveal the copper core then screw the connector on,your done, with practice its easy. |
