I recently saw a reference to Linux which seemed to imply that you could acquire "things" that were normally unobtainable. Are we allowed to discuss this in open forum?
Regards

I couldn't talk about it as I haven't a clue what it is (card sharing that is), due to the lack of interest in this post there is obviously something we can't talk about.
Regards

Linux is about a lot more than cardsharing. The open architecture of linux boxes means that enthusiasts can write and code the receiver operation systems to do all sorts of magical things. One such example is the jukebox plugin. This allows me to have an unlimited number of my favourite CDs on my Dreambox hard drive in MP3 format so that I can play them at will.
The number of plugins is too great to list here.

The number of plugins is to great to list here, sounds fascinating. I was talked out of buying a Dreambox, the person (well known on this Forum) indicated that Linux was very complicated and not for the fainthearted. I still have the urge to buy a good Dreambox but I am a novice, would I be making as big mistake or would I be joining an elite club? Is there help out there for a Dreambox novice?
Regards

If you want a plug and play receiver then the Dreambox is not for you. The Dreambox is a computer with the ability to receive and show tv.
If you can install programmes on your pc including formatting a disk and manipulating files using windoze explorer then you should soon be able to use a Dreambox to its full extent. The Dreambox is almost a way of life and since new bits are coming out all the time, it is almost obligatory to play with the software on a regular basis to see what new options are available. There is a massive amount of Dreambox help and as enthusiasts, most owners go out of their way to assist newcomers.

As long as your pc literate then you will have no problems with a dream box, do a little reading up, then the best thing is to get one and jump straight in, best way to learn!
You can then sell me your Vantage!

I Wouldn't say the Vantage is anything like the Dreambox but if anyone who is new to this hobby and want to learn quickly then the Vantage is for you, I'm forever loading and unloading, re-booting and reinstalling, the Dreambox sounds like a doddle (tongue in cheek) but I am prepared to have a go. Which one though, don't forget "in at the deep end" money not really an object!!!.
Regards PS Will I need to load Linux onto my PC????

You won't need Linux on your PC, no - but a good FTP client is a must.
Go for it. The Dreambox is a whole new way of life, and you'll never know unless you try it. STICK
