To answer my own question, no you cant use macs from your own segment, got a mate from another segment to sniff for me.
got my modem all up and working. Im in segment (UBR03) mates in segment (UBR01) worked fine with his sniffs. did internet speed test: 17864 kb/s Vermin thanks soooo much for all of you help. Still keep in touch around the forums and on private messages. UPDATE !!! Ok, if you wouldn't mind answering my question when your available. That would be much aprecaited. Hello, I have sniffed and got about 8 mac addresses from my friend up the road who is in the same segment area as me. Am i now OK to put these into my modem? Or do i need to do a mac swap? All Help Is Really Really apreciated. Last edited by Sulli4; 11-10-08 at 08:03 PM. |

if the macs are from your segment ubr03 then no, because you will conflict with a paying customer and will give them no end of problems which is completely frowned upon. if you are having connection problems when using a mac this is a sure sign of a conflict, stop using it immediately and try another mac.
go back to your mates and scan on his ubr01,any of those macs will be fine. or scan from your own modem using `DCHP force` these macs will be ok,you will have to trawl through what you find and keep good ones for future configs/problems. glad your all sorted.you can now start helping others !
