Surround sound system?

Hi there,

I want to get my partner a home cinema surround sound system but its so confusinggggg, people talk about 5.1 although mabe 7.1 would be better, whatttt????

My partner loves his films and plays music all through his playstaysion 3 - what shall i go for, i have 300 - 350 max to spend, any advice would be so much appreciated i have absolutely no idea on this stuff im so confused but want to get him something so decent!!! xxxxxxxxxxx

I have a Pioneer vsx 917v amp,a Eltax sub woofer and 7 Tangent speakers and for the money I am well pleased.The amp has plenty of inputs and it sets itself up automatically so you dont have to do a thing unless you want too.If you put a DTS audio disc through it the sound is awesome and live concerts via the dvd and hi def tv is superb.I have no complaints.Hope this helped.
