Hi
I'm new to this so if my question sounds obvious and stupid please forgive me: I purchased a Sony 26" 1080 HD TV at the weekend. Mostly it is very good even though I only have sky+. But.... when I am watching channel 5 through Sky and Sky 1 in particular sometimes the quality is less than perfect. I notice that dark backgrounds, striped shirts or misty scenes become pixelated. What I want to know is is it worth spending the extra for Sky+HD to vercome this? Thanks in anticipation

It might well be worth trying running a screen optimisation program to see if that helps fix the problem. A lot of TVs have standard settings that are designed to make them look the brightest and most vibrant TV in the shop, but are quite awful when you want to watch quality pictures 24/7. What we want to do is adjust the brightness, contrast, sharpness, etc to get the best picture.
While I'm sure there are dedicated TV optimisation DVDs you can buy, it's cheaper if you've got one already. I found one as one of the extras on the Disney DVD "Cars" - apparently it's quite common to find them on Disney DVDs. Alternatively, Vista Media Centre has one built in, so if you can hook the PC up to the TV that might work. If you haven't got one, or can't be bothered, try just altering EVERY picture setting you can find to the dead middle and turn off any picture enhancing systems, but your results won't be as good as doing it properly. Not sure if that will help with your problem, but it's cheaper than upgrading your sky box so got to be worth a try! |
