Default XBox 360 Lite-On

The firmware chip on the new Lite-On 360 DVD drive is read only right? My thought was to read it with a programmer, save the firmware, create a new hacked firmware, rewrite a new chip with the firmware and then re-solder the new chip back onto the PCB.

It probably won't work but it's just an idea that I had which I think makes complete sense if you are confident at soldering because I know those chips are small. I will try and get hold of a Lite-On drive and I will give it a go and tell you how I get on. If you want to ask me any questions, please feel free to drop me a PM and I will get back to you when I can .

dont be a wally.you intend to do what professional hackers have not done yet.the firmware of the liteon was dumped weeeks ago, only the key was missing from the firmware dump.

the key and the unique drive identity can be read from the drive using an rs232/3232 adaptor that you solder into the drives pcb.theres tutorials for it.

oh well,go on and amaze the world with your dumb idea.

As I said "It probably won't work but it's just an idea that I had which I think makes complete sense if you are confident at soldering because I know those chips are small." I did state that it probably WON'T work. I am just making a SUGGESTION.

Dw about it now anyway. The pros are working on it as we speak so there should be a solution soon. Also, a big thanks to those who make all these mods and hacks .

At last, the hack everyone has been waiting for........, C4eva's newly developed iXtreme 1.5, due out on the 24th of December, will be flashable onto the "unhackable" Lite-On DG-16D2S allowing backups to be played!!! I am not sure how the firmware will be flashed onto the drive but there should be some more detailed information on the internet nearer to the release date .

Writing to the flash was never the issue, it was reading the flash to create a firmware from.

they decapped the chip in acid to get full access.

ha!you wanted to read one of them with your programmer.this is why i told you to stop dreaming.

even erasing the drive took time, all the apps had to be redone, they knew what to do but,it still had to be done sucessfully.

perhaps you desoldered a tsop32 and thought you could handle one of them?i got a bag full of tsop32 as i do them regular.just cleaning them legs would have been a task as i can guarantee you that chip in that state was still unreadable, the legs have bridging and they are not nearly clean enough for any programmer to be read from.

How did they erase the chip? I can see that it looks pretty messed up but they have obviously found a way .
