IF YOU HAVE A 3G IPHONE PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE 3G INSTRUCTIONS PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOUR iPHONE IS CURRENTLY LOCKED OR NOT FUNCTIONING BEFORE YOU BEGIN AS YOU MAY REQUIRE ADDITIONAL HELP YOU MUST HAVE ITUNES 8.0 INSTALLED WHEN FOLLOWING THESE INSTRUCTIONS. DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR IPHONE TO 2.1 FIRMWARE BEFORE YOU START THESE INSTRUCTIONS. Explanation of the terms within this instruction guide. 1stGEN means the original iPhone. This iPhone has an aluminium back and black plastic buttons on the side. This iPhone is sometimes called the 2G 3G This is the new iPhone that was released in July 2008. The iPhone has a black or white plastic cover and metal buttons on the side. Unlocked means that the iPhone can be used on any compatible GSM network. The 1st Generation iPhones can be unlocked but the 3G iPhone cannot. Jailbroken is the term applied to the process of setting the iPhone so that it can be customized with settings and applications not normally available on the iPhone or via download from the Apple App store. How to use these instructions. Upgrading to 2.1 is a simple multi-step process. You must follow each step in order. If possible please Sync your iPhone with iTunes before starting these instructions, as your data WILL be wiped off of the iPhone. You will get the data and settings back if you have syncʼd your contacts, email, photos etc before you start. As you will be wiping the iPhone any applications you downloaded onto the iPhone will be removed but the Apple App store applications can be downloaded for free again if you have downloaded them previously. BEFORE YOU START Please do not try this procedure when using an iPhone docking device. This procedure can only work if when you connect the USB cable directly into the iPhone. iTunes MUST be able to detect your iPhone. Whether in a Recovery mode or it simply tells you that there is an upgrade available. If possible sync up your contacts as you will be wiping your iPhone and will need to restore them back at the end of this process. If at any stage you encounter an error please make a note of the message and check the list of errors at the bottom of this document. If you still encounter the error after following my advice contact me on iphone@ukstreets.net If when starting your computer you did not have to select a user and enter a password do not continue with these instructions. MAC USERS MUST NOT USE SAFARI WHEN DOWNLOADING THE FILES DETAILED IN THIS DOCUMENT AS SAFARI CHANGES THE FILES. PLEASE USE FIREFOX FOR THE DOWNLOAD. You will be given the option to resync all of your contacts and applications back to the iPhone on the following screen. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me on iPhone@ukstreets.net 3rd Party Application Sources Here is a list of all the sources for applications that I have found on the internet. Please remember that not all applications will run on 2.0 so you may have to wait for the developers to recode their applications so that they work on your upgraded iPhone. I am not responsible for any of the applications that you may install on your iPhone so please be careful what you download. To add a source to your iPhone do the following: 1. select the Cydia application icon on the iPhone 2. select manage at the bottom of the screen 3. select sources in the middle of the screen 4. select edit in the top right of the screen 5. select add on the top left of the screen 6. enter a url detailed below and click add source 7. close cydia 8. open Cydia 9. go to Sections your new applications will appear here or you can use the search option if you know the name of the application |
