I have got 20mb virgin media broadband and the guy in the flat under me has just got broadband.
The question is should the cable engineer have used the brown box on the wall that goes into my flat or not?![]() |

Its a difficult 1 as in some areas especially ex t/w areas installers will install what they call a double drop which is 2 cables to houses that are perhaps terraced or as in your case flats. This is to avoid the need for them to bury a new cable when the time comes for when the neighbour wants cable. They claim that its so the existing customers cable doesnt get damaged when the new one is installed which is good practice. They are i believe supposed to fit a seperate brown box (omni box) for each customer but some installers are too lazy to bother with that and use the existing one. But there is also the chance the installer just split your feed which is totally unacceptable, you could open the box up and check and if that is the case phone them up and tell them your BB has been slower since your neighbour was installed. This will allow the lazy installer a kick up the arse which he obviously needs and someone will come out to sort it.

so long as your neighbour is not the guy on one of these forums who wants to install 10 modems on a single line ! dont worry, but if your speed suddenly drops down to 56k than he has gone on-line.than you might as well go back to DIAL UP` !

Spoke to virgin media today and they are going to send out a engineer to check my broadband. (Said that the broadband had slowed down, p.s. the guy under my flat is still awaiting his wireless Router from virgin)
