I don't know. I don't want to watch Lost it was just an example of a programme to record. It could have been Eastenders, Weakest Link, or whatever...

I've seen that Martin but there is a few features it lacks. Number one is it doesn't allow you to record one programme whilst watching another.

Also it doesn't let you record straight from the EPG, e.g. you can't look at tomorrows listings and select one to record.

What I may do is this:

I pay £21 for Sky+ (will not get rid of this)
I pay £20 for broadband

I may cancel my broadband saving me £20, sign up to Virgin Media £4.50 broadband per month. Then I can get a cable box. It will be for sport mainly, so will not have a need to record from it.

Hi,

I bought the Starview 4 in an attempt to have a machine that replicated the features of SKY+

So far as your recording from the EPG question goes, the machine is capable of that (as stated in the instructions manual that comes with it) but the software/firmware currently on offer does not utilise this capability. The pause / rewind live TV is so erratic that it cannot be relied on at all at the moment. You also have to press pause every time you change the channel to initiate this facility, but this normally ends up in the box freezing and you have to re-boot.
It also doesn’t allow recording one channel and viewing another at the same time, but everyone pretty much knows that.

On the plus side, updating software is so easy a Woman could do it. The picture clarity is far better than Sky and (in my case) there have been no reliability problems in terms of being able to watch the channels without it freezing or pixilation etc. Also, when you do record it works a treat.

So all in all, it’s a good buy and hopefully it will improve with new software/firmware releases.
