Default About to cancel Sky

I've had sky for about 25 days, still within the cancellation period. Only got it as my freeview signal broke.

Could someone confirm this is correct:

1) cancel sky
2) sign up to lowest TV package on virgin
3) buy the box
4) plug the box in, and do some software stuff on it (I'm comfortable with this part)

Also, I would like to record. I heard the Starview 4 box has this feature, if you update the software, and plug an external harddrive in.

However, I don't want some fiddly, system which breaks down every few days. Is it reliable, and does it work easily and efficiently?

Do you need a TV subscription? I believe you can just get the lowest broadband and split the signal... Right?

I was wondring what the Starview 4 PVR is like in comparison to Sky+.. I know Sky is vastly superior to most. But how much more than the SV4?

I think it's cheaper to get the lowest TV package, it's free when you take a virgin phone line.

Plus I would rather keep my existing broadband provider. Any one fill me in on this?

Well just cancelled Sky and I honestly feel much happier.

You could have given me the full package for £0 per month and I still wouldn't feel great, as I've never liked them and kind of felt forced into it as my freeview signal broke.

Also, about this recording business:

Can I go through the EPG, and select stuff to record and it will automatically do so? E.g. LOST is on in 2 days time, I can schedule that in to record?

Not at the moment but maybe possible with future firmware. The Eurovox pvr can record from the EPG.

or.. you could just sign up to VM with the BB, and split the signal with a splitter.

Good idea. Only question is:

My tv is downstairs, my computer is upstairs. How do they install it? I don't want to make it obvious to the isntallers by saying to leave it downstairs, plus of course I still need the internet upstairs.

Just not sure how it would work. Is it a thick cable or thin one, easy to hide against the wall?
