sorry to be a nuisance i am trying to get to grips with this before i buy what does is a cam and what does a card enable me to do anyone help.

A card enables you to watch encrypted channels you pay for or subscribe to; just like a Sky card enables you to watch Sky's encrypted channels.

A CAM is necessary in some instances so that a particular receiver can accept a particular card. In other instances some CAMs can in their own right enable a person to receive encrypted channels not subscribed to.

I would be carefull in investing in any receiver at this moment in time.Unless you want to use a legitimate service.

I am now confused about being careful in investing in any receiver at the moment what are the problems.

I presume that roadrunner is referring to 'uncertain' times ahead (an occupational hazard for many in the hobby), due to the number of providers migrating from N2 to N3.
If you want guaranteed viewing other than FTA then the only way is with an official subscription.
