Hello there, tried searching but amn`t getting too far, i`m a bit of a novice at satellite tv but i`m keen to learn. I`m a few years behind on pc technology, i worked in networking for 10 years and have built a lot of systems that are still going but the last 4 years or so I havent payed a bit of notice to new developments in pcs (mostly because I used to spend too much money on them, and that prevented me spending money on nice cars)
I`m considering building an HTPC with blu-ray and a dvb s2 tuner or 2, to begin with to view Hd content on sky but if it works ok next year i`ll go for a diseq motor and a bigger dish to expand my horizons. I`m looking for recommendations and advice for choosing components for the system. I cant spend a fortune, so i`m hoping it wont need to be too high end to do the job. I wont be doing any gaming, just watching and maybe recording some hd content through either dvi or hdmi to my plasma and if possible spdif to my surround amp. I`m also very interested in cardsharing works and if it can be done reliably on an HTPC Any recommendations and opinions are welcome and if you know of any decent beginner reading material i`d be grateful. |

Thanks Jimdefruit, how does your PC handle the HD channels? I just want the free HD channels at the moment in the hope the BBC will broadcast the F1 in HD next year.

i bought the skystar s2 and am a bit dissapointed with drivers etc...
If you look at TVpack 2008 with native satellite support for vista mediacenter you haven't a prayer - however DVBViewer runs nicely with it and if you go motorised you can get some nice "Free" channels... |

This thread started out as HD needing a s2 card but seems to have gone back to a dvb-s card.
The Skystar SS2 card will receive and show DVB-S transmissions like BBC HD and ITV HD but not the DVB-S2 transmissions.
