Default Splitter configuration

Guys,
I understand that using a splitter reduces the signal quality. I am trying to decide at which point should I connect my cable modem and what splitter I need. I have two configurations below which i can use. Can you please suggest where should i connect the modem.
Is A1 better than B1, or is it vice versa?
Code:
                |Input
                |
                |
        -------------
        | |
        | |
        | |
        A1 |
                        |
                        |
                        |
                        |
                ---------------
                | |
                | |
                | |
                | |
                A2 A3

                |Input
                |
                |
        -------------
        | | |
        | | |
        | | |
        B1 B2 B3

Why is that? I thought the earlier the better.

with A1 you have two, two way splitters, (even one splitter will degrade your signal) you have already split the line once but then you have split it again you will have low signal levels with A2 & A3

with B1 you just have one three way splitter which splits it better so all three lines B1, B2 & B3 will receive the same signal levels.

I dont really care much about levels at A2 and A3. However, I want to get the best signal for the modem. Shouldnt A1 have the strongest signal?
