Can anyone tell me if XP Home activation codes are linked specifically to the discs that are used? The reason I ask is that I have wiped a hard drive to reinstall XP and prior to doing so I downloaded Keyfinder and was able to get the previously installed activation code. The problem is that the disc originally used on the installation has been lost. I do however have another XP Home disc that I could use to load the operating system if that is possible (using of course the previously installed code)?
Cheers. |

There are several editions of the Windows XP installation CD. If the CD you possess is from the same series as the original installation the key you have should work.
Usually editions supplied OEM to machine builders are different to the retail CDs, and manufacturer-customised CDs may not activate on another manufacturer's PC. |
