Eurovox Ex5000 firmware and a mac????

Hi,

I'm in glasgow and stumbled on this site by accident! Can feel already it's going to be a source of info for some time to comes!

Just got an Ex 5000 and have been informed it wasn't flashed with the firmware

Want to flash the box but have a mac book laptop. Can this be done or do I need a PC to do this?

PS. I'm a bit overwhelmed with the info on this firmware updating. What version do I need for this box?

Hi J and welcome to the site.

You need a computer that has a serial port, prefarably a windows xp (p.c)

you need a cable that looks like a female to female serial cable but is called a "null modem cable"

there are lots of stickys and details about how to perform the flash in the forums.

download a toolbar from worldwideweb dot the chatter box dot cc

That toolbar will have all firmware, you need firmware 1.1a for eurovox ex 5000.

I'm not aware of any flashing software that'll run natively on a Mac.

Are Macbooks Intel chips or G5s? If they're Intel (which I think they are) then you have two options, either you can run a virtual machine with a copy of Windows (never done it personally for flashing) or partition your hard drive using Apple's Bootcamp and install Windows on it which works fine with a compatible USB to serial adapter.
