Default Quick newbie question, pls reply.

I'm planning on building a Htpc, i've just found out that I can get a pci card that will do the same job as my eurovox (recieve all virgin media channels).

Basically my question is what is the best pci card to buy. I have virgin media and want to recieve all the channels as i get with my eurovox. HD channels would be a bonus also is there any additional software needed?

Thanks in advance.

I'd spend upto £120 on a card. Would I be able to watch HD with this? and would i need the optional CI?

cheers

The tt1501 can do HD but in the UK there is only BBC HD on Cable at the moment!

Floppy route? What would be the advantage?

Also what does the optional CI do for the tt-1501?

the ci is so you can connest a 'hardcam' as opposed to using softcam, ie a viewing card for encryption.

I've never tried a TT, but I've often rad that the Floppy DVB-C/Fire DVB-C "just works"

ok heres where i get to help someone.
i have a floppdtv-c (£125), and a technotrend t1500c with ci. (£65).
both do the job well, but floppydtv after sale support is better.
i recommend using hard cam for decrytion its more reliable.

cheap pc... get the acase htpc case from xcase.co.uk (£45).
mobo, micro atx amd 790 chipset with onboard ati hd 3000 series video and digital audio out.(about £45)
cpu, amd athlon 64 x2 5000+ and 2gig pc6400 ram. (£100 ish)
ultra quiet 420 watt psu. (£35)
120 gig sata2 hd. (£35)
dvd or blueray rom/writer. (£25 or £80)
ms mce ir-remote. (£30 max)
media portal software (free).

not using a htpc case and avoiding the ultra quiet option can save you few quid. but its nice to do it right.

hope this helps.
