Hi,
Right I am totally new to this so excuse me if it's been asked many times before! I have Sky and want to run it through to my Media Centre PC, I want to be able to watch all of the channels I can already watch on my Sky+ box subscription and use the PC as another PVR in my study / kids room. I am assuming I can do this by getting a TV card, a CAM?, getting another Sky card, pay the extra fee from sky (Mulitroom?) and hey presto??? Is it this simple? or am I way off line!! I have a PC Card already and receive digital Freeview, but I want the advantage of getting the like of Discovery / National Geographic and other Sky channels etc. Thanks in advance for your help |

Sky (with a subscription) is available on pc although a bit messy to set up at the minute... TVpack 2008 might be worth a look and you will obviously need a satellite card with cam access module apparently floppy/fireDTV and the hauppauge cards work.
Windows 7 (the next step from Vista) is supposedly (don't hold your breath!!) going to support this straight out of the box. Have a look on thegreenbutton.com lot's of Vista media center info/help on there.... |

If you get a SkyStar HD2 and a phoenix card reader you should be able to watch Sky on the PC using software and a cam (like DVBViewer and NDSCam) and using your legit subscription.
Multiroom AFAIK requires the STB to be plugged in to the phone line for 12 months so I guess that would rule out having the card plugged into the reader all the time as the STB would want to phone back now and again. |

Spose it wouldn't be too inconvenient to have an old Sky box in the same place, and just slip the card in to that when not using it.
Or a cheaper solution and probably much easier would be to have a video/TV card in the PC and just use the PC as a monitor.

I've a media centre in living room with a sshd2 in it fed from motorised dish, also in the room i av a tm3100 to drive motor(does bugger all else!) Tried diablo cam in sshd2 but it didn't like it freezing crashing etc.. all the time, tried the sky card in it and it brought on the blue screen of death!! Anyway i'm gonna get the tm9100(i think!) to drive the motor and do the decrypting (sky and possibly diablo again?) bit and hopefully feed my sshd2 from it by means i won't mention on here
