Default Spliting connection for two modems to separate computers?

Good evening all
I got a subbed modem connected up to my desktop-PC.
Can i split the cable feed & connect a modded modem(Different mac) up to my laptop at same time. Subbed connected to desktop-modded modem connected to laptop-both on same split cable feed. Would this work?

I know most of this has been covered before but anything i read related to connecting two modems up to one PC which required running additional software ect , not two modems up two separate pc's.

cheers
roco
