Default Rewiring/splitting cable feed

Hi all,

hope this is the right forum to post in, if not, sorry and i'm sure a mod will shift it.

Right,
my setup (using n*l cable):
Living room = Eurovox
Master (action) bedroom) = The original cable was split by n*l outside to provide cable to living room AND to bedroom where modem is. Cable in bedroom subsequently split between cable modem and cable connection to htpc with TT C-1501) with no loss at all to.
All other bedrooms = recent install of freeview aeriel which goes into a loftbox and splits into each of 3 bedrooms supplying top quality signal. 2 bedrooms have pcs with dvb-t cards (fta) and one has a tv with freeview box.

Now, each freeview (coax) and network (cat5e) connection comes from the loft through the ceilings and directly into the pc/tv (ie. no wall plates etc).
Oh, and i used sat grade ct100 foam filled, copper braided coax, so it aint cheap carp.

With me so far?

Ok, my intentions:

1. Build server cab in the loft with 12 port presentation and switch, to house router/firewall, NAS and wap.
2. Redo all cables going into bedrooms by putting patrices/faceplates in situ with relevent trunking. Basically to cable it all correctly as i should have done when i started if i'd had all the kit .
2a. The faceplates ideally will consist of 1x cat5e and 1 x coax (f-connector)

But....

3. I intend to replace the freeview with the cable feed, so all i'd need to do is run the cable feed into the loft and split it in the loft box instead of the freeview cable.

questions:

1. Now, the above is no problem for the network as i do this as part of my job. However i am aware that each join on the coax could cost me about 2-3dB, even though my signal is spot on for freeview. However with wanting to replace that with the cable feed, am i risking too much signal loss? The loftbox is apparently a top grade industrial one. (will dig out model later).
2. Will the pcs with fta cards in accept the cable feed, but just show the fta channels? What about the tv with freeview box, will that do the same?

Hope all this makes some sense and i look forward to any advice offered, thanks.

Default Re: Rewiring/splitting cable feed

when u split cable, a 2way splitter gives a lost of 3db on each connetion, 3 ways and above is 6db each connection mate

so think like this, you got +5 maybe at your box outside, its split, so thats +2 going to bedroom and +going to living room. If you got a white box inside, thats another 1db gone for the isolater so you now at +1, you split is, thats -2 ect, modems and voxes are good to -7 mate

so, you're saying i should be ok?
What about the loft box, would it not boost in any way? Its not specifically a booster, but wasn't sure if it did supply some kind measure of amplification.
Trying to find faceplates with RJ-45 and F-connector (or standard coax if need be) is a bind.
Any recommended sites i could go to.

Thanks for your input btw
