It will work.
You will also need a cable to connect it to the pins.
You can find ones with the cable and cd-rom software ready to go for not much more.

Like mrcrisp suggested, why not buy a max232 with cable and software thats ready to go - for a little more cash. Try Tailormade-Circuits.
