Ok....
Sorry to be a bore, but I now need to invest in a 'cable' box, and as I am a 'virgin' to all this, I'm Flumuxed. ![]() I have seen an advert for Starview PVR 160GB Twin Tuner. The truth is, I have no outside aerial, and only a cable line...I get min tv/broadband and phone line. So if I plugged one into my cable, would I get Freeview, or would i get all the cable channels..(perish the thought, i wouldn't want to break my agreement or nothing)?? If the worst scenario happens (all channels), would this be the box people recommend? is there others? Its all a bit bewildering, and at my age, the wife says its not worth the bother....but hey, I'm a lounge lizard, and I like my tv, but as a penniless urchin, I have a budget (for subscription). Any advice, magic wand cures, would be greatly appreciated, Cheers....... Oh, and N.E. if it makes any differences. |

I have never used a Starview or any other box apart from Vermin usuals, but from what i understand they plug into your Vermin connection on the wall so you can receive all/most channels, and as for your budget, once you have the box its FREE less the tv licence of course

So I plug it in where the old box was and i'm away.
I've read on here that i lose channels etc. I dont mind spending the money on the box, but if i lose the channels, it would seem an expensive freeview box. Vermin I assume are a type of box for cable. Are they any good? I have been told that i could get a 'chipped' box, but ive heard that you have to keep getting him to redo the card. I would prefer a one off style box. |

DBoxes, Starview, Eurovox etc can all be scanned for cable channels. Original boxes do need cards updating but they are a lot better in my opinion and they are easier to use.

vermin = virgin
i dont use a starview myself but i believe its just the same as eurovox ect , you will get all channels mate except ondemnd/catchup ect. Just replace the box you are using now with it,it might need updated with the latest firmware ect but its all pretty easy to do & you will get all the info on how to do that on here. i think you just use one of these now to update the starviesw : Starview 4 THE BOX USB official memory stick PVR on eBay, also, Cable Boxes, Satellite Cable Freeview, Consumer Electronics (end time 11-Nov-08 12:12:18 GMT) gl |

If you do get one make sure you keep the box you rent of virgin,dont let anyone talk you into selling or giving it to them. You never know when you might need mate. I know a guy who sold his subbed box once he got a eurovox - dooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhh
