Default Re: New to Virgin Modding

It's possible.. but Virmin's network is (imho) a classic case of running before it can really walk..

I ran a modem for 3 years which i obtained honestly through them, which they forgot to turn the billing on for. I moved 3 times in the same area and the modme continued to work through the 10mb - 20mb upgrade and for a year after.... if they cant figure out that i should have been paying.. then they are unlikely to catch you.

ont he other hand.. i wasn't "borrowing" bandwidth from another mac..

from my experiences, the bandwidth throttling appears to be modem based rather than Mac (there's others than can more than likely confirm this) and there are methods out there that, if you are using the right hardware, allow you to block the "offending" packets that tell your modem to slow down...

having just moved from cable to adsl2... i'm undecided if i miss the throttled BW.. but i think you will be "safe"... they will turn the Mac off before they track you down.
