will do. i couldnt sit still last night so i went out into the garden, drilled the holder to the garage and had a quick test run. 45% gain (not sure if thats the right word) and 5% signal - both of these were present all the time as soon as i connected the lnb. no movement, no picture, nada.

could be one of 3 things>

a: my neighbours house is in the way (my canal digitaal dish is on the garage roof, about 5-6 meters away from my quick garage test setup.

b: my cable is trashed - had a very nasty knick in it which i tried to straighten. i think the copper core is borked.

c: and this is most likely - my sense of direction is as bad as a london taxi driver. ie> i was pointing it the wrong way.

either way, our electrician is coming over tomorrow with his satfinder and some new cable. im willing to bet hell have it up and running within 4 minutes and make me look like a right idiot... (hes done this before)

ill keep you posted.

electrician didnt turn up and clled to ask if you could come tomorrow instead.

major disappointment.

so, i climb up on the roof and installed the dish. drilled through the wall into the attic and ran a cable through, i then made a quick test set-up (small tv and receiver) in the room directly below.

when my wife got home she watched the tv while I moved the dish about - no love.
changed some of the settings of the receiver at random. lnb, tp's etc and...............

OH YEAH!

we now get an extra 350 channels. about 50 different variations of bbc, channel 4 and ITV. much of the programs look the same, im guessing the difference is stuff like regional news etc. picture is 100% crystal clear. i did scan a few channels that seem either 'choppy' or give 'no signal' but i guess theyre maybe ppv channels that sneaked in on the FTA scan? meh who cares... im really happy right now with my bbc, itv and c4!

in fact, im a mega happy bunny and id like to thank you for your input and help.

just to recap. i bought the skymaster 80 cm d7 sat receiver kit from amazon for €70, and a wallmount for €10. i already had some cable.

one last question>

can i buy one of these (conrad.de Basetech 2IN1 DiSEqC 2.0 Umschalter) to connect both dishes to my canal digitaal receiver? if i can then i wont have to drill all over the house to run a second cable.
ideally i want to place the splitter thing in the attic on the wall where the 2 dishes are - then use the cable i already have installed (my original canaldigitaal cable). im assuming ill lose the local channels from 23.5 (tv gelderland, omroep brabant etc) because the duo lnb will get all crazy by the diseqc splitter right?

either way - can i use that conrad splitter to connect both my 19.2 dish and my new astra 2 dish to the same receiver.

im starting to confuse myself...

edit: cant post links

Hi all.

I am completely new with a basic understanding of what has been said. I too am after English TV whilst working over in Germany, Lower Saxony in the NNE of the Country.

I have read with great interest everyone's comments on their experiences. In Particular the BBC/ITV being picked up in Holland which isn't that far from where I am. That sounds ideal for me, I do not wish for anything much other than NOT to watch German TV (coz it's dead good!). No sports channels are required or pay for views etc. Kids channels would be handy too.

Can anyone who picks up on this consolidate the information for me as I realise it's quite an old thread and my head is all over the place. I'm at a loss as to what to get as there's a minefield of kit out there to buy and like anyone sensible I don't wish to waste the cash!

  1. How many channels could I theoretically pick up?
  2. Is there going to be major changes to the systems out there, am I worth hanging on until they sort this out? i.e Big Switchover etc?
  3. Is it going to cost the earth?
Any help very much appreciated in advance...!

Freesat receiver and 60cm dish should give you all the free channels from HERE including ITV BBC etc
Might want to check Freesat official website
If in doubt drop Ian from Southern Sattelite a line. Recommended seller on this forum. Bought couple of items from him already, always excelent service.
regards

Partly correct Roadrunner, but Astra 2D in Germany with a 60cm dish I very much doubt.

A 1m maybe. Though it will depend exactly where.

Well, if I`m wrong then sorry Last thing I want to do is to mislead someone.
I based 60cm on the footprints from lyngsat and the fact that ionosphere said that he is not far from holland in the Lower Saxony ( which is north west of the country)
seen freesat working in south east of Poland (some 600miles further east )on the 80cm with no signal loss)

Yes you are were more concienscious than me, he said NNE of Germany, but it appears you were right Road runner, more west than that.

In Leipzig an 85cm works OK on 2D (someone using that size), if you are near there, I would be tempted to go for that size if you have the space. According to the lyngsat footprint 65-85cm is needed, so possibly you could chance it on something smaller if you have to.
