Default Satellite dish which type

I am new to sateliite tv and would like to ask a couple of questions.

I am going to purchase the new Humax HDR box when it comes out hopefully next month and as I have no dish. When I get one installed is it worthwile going for a motorised dish?

Will I be able to pick up many more english speaking channels going that way?

Thanks
Jack

Hi

Hopefully you will be able to get the receiver as already I am hearing demand has outstripped supply on the first batch of 2000! and the next batch won't be delivered until Feb 09! Anyway I would hold off a motorised dish as there is no knowing yet if the HDR will be able to drive a motorised dish (the HD Foxsat can but the menu is hidden away) Anyway by motorising it won't get you much in the way of English channels as most are aimed at other nations.

If you want a motorised system you are better off buying a different receiver that is capable of driving a dish, and taking a CAM such as the Diablo Light so that you can unlock some foreign stations that show programmes with a English soundtrack along side the foreign one.

Regards
Ian

I would agree.

You need to decide whether you want to go for multi-satellite rececption or not, and then get a receiver type that is most suited for it.

The Freeesat receivers are most suited for single sat reception parked on 28E. The likes of the Dreambox, Vantage, Technomate etc are best suited for multi-sat reception.

Using one for the other, will mean that there will be compromises.

The Humax PVR will be able to drive a motor (just like the pressent foxsat HD freesat receiver can. And it also has a cam slot.
