Default Pace 1000

Just been given and old pace 1000, i've programmed an Atmega and its working fine, tb cut and all channels working.
The odd thing is its still running cr1 software and wont update to cr3 (not a problem but just wondering why).
I've noticed theres only 2 chips on the simm (which i believe makes it a 1000 phase 1b), but in eng menu it says hardware version P1.3 . Does this mean the box is not a phase 1b, but has a phase 1b simm?
Cheers
Andy

I doubt it as I don't think that a SIMM from a Pace 1000 can be used in a phase b. I got an error when I tried to swap them over, 88:88 I think it was.

not sure about your box version but have you tried a forced update? all you do is rebout while pressing and holding standby until you see ---- then press the buttond to the right if the screen from top to bottom until you see 4321 appear on the display

The chances are as has been said is that the two atmels have been lifted from the simm, the 1b simm will not work in the 1000 box,to update the software you will need a 4 chip simm (like gold dust) and once youve got one it will have to stay in the box as trying to put the 2 chip back will give you errors.

Thanks for the replies, i thought it may be a 1b simm in a 1000 as i read a Modshack tut for the wembley trick that says you can use a 1b simm instead of lifting pins on simm. The pads are there for the two atmels, are they not on a 1b simm? I've had a look on both sides of the board and can't see any wires so i dont think its had the pin 11 mod done, would be visible right?
I've tried to force an update by holding standby then press buttons bottom upwards for 4321 but it doesn't update, it starts then comes up with a screen full of writing then reboots and hasn't updated.
Is there any downside to running cr1 software?
Thanks again

On a 1000 simm if the atties have been removed (this was done to stp updating to later software) then there will be two blank spaces on the simm, on the 1000 p1b simm there is only 2 chips and no spare pads, they are easily distinguished as the 1b simm chips sit horizontal wheres as the 1000 sit vertical,

Just had a closer look and there are 2 empty spaces where it looks like 2 atmels have been removed, pins look like they've been cut as they're still proud of the board. Thanks Marc
Are there any problems running cr1?

If the pins are still proud of the board then it was def a 4 chipper thats been removed,
No probs currently on CR1 thats not to say there wont be,rumour has it all pace boxes will be obsolete in the near future, personally i cant see that happening as it will cost them to muh money hence why we are still on nagra1
