Default Copying a DVD - how ??

Hi,

I did a skydive last year and its on dvd, I keep trying to put it into my Apple but it just says "not supported" or words to that effect. How do you get it to load on. I am totally crap at this sort of thing but I'm sure this will be the right place to ask.

Regards Nord.

This sounds like a potential DVD R-/+ issue - a lot of PCs and some Apples only support one DVD format or the other, ie, DVD R- or DVD R+.

So do make sure that the DVD you've recorded on is a format compatible with the computer you're using.

The Dvd is DVD-R 16x 4.7 gb how do you find what the Apple runs on - Someone said they put a security on the dvd to stop you copying them ??? surely there must be some way - mind you with Apple nothing surprises me.

Best Regards Nord

Hi, how old is your mac, does it have a dvd-rom installed? or is it just for cds? You can get programs to rip movies, but i dont think they will have protected your disc. More likely a media issue with the drive.

The mac should just play the disc straight off if a dvdrom is installed.

Its only about 6 months old - runs on Leopard etc, think they protected disc, what program rips it off. It plays no problem, just doesnt let you copy it.

Smile Re: Copying a DVD - how ??

try to make a DMG image of the dvd then you might get some where although i have found that some DVDs are and can be impossible to rip. If you can install windows on your mac you might be better for ripping DVDs anyways as i have not found a good application for ripping on my mac yet.

i am still looking for one........

if you dont know how to make a dvd image of dvd here is how you do it.

1. open the applications folder in finder
2. go to the utilities folder
3. open disk utility
4. then insert the DVD in to you drive
5. then highlight you dvd drive,
6. click new image at the top.
7. save the file somewhere with a name the click save

8. after that you should see the image appear in the bottom left hand corner of disk utility.

9. all as you will have to is burn the image you just crated of the dvd. using disk utility.

after you have burned the image all as you will have a cloned dvd. if you leave the image on you mac you will have the dvd on there aswell.

thanks

graham

Another Applemac victim having probs. Just goes to show how restricting they are. It may be convenient and easy to use, but at the cost of tech freedom! Free yourself and dump the imac products!
