Why do people take an instant dislike to Peter Mandelson?
It saves time! Mandelson was scheduled to give an after-dinner speech at the CBI. The chairman gave a short introduction, concluding, "And now I'll hand you over to the Secretary of State for Business, the Right Honourable Peter Mandelson, Lord of Hartlepool, and known to the British press as 'Mandy', although friends call him Peterkins." "Nobody calls me that!" retorts Mandelson, with customary iciness. "Of course not." the chairman replies.
