where shall i have it ?

ok this is my scenario. virgin coming tomorrow to fit the basic package, i have a dodgy box and i dont know whether to have it upstairs or down, the reason for this is because we have sky upstairs and down but have more channels downstairs, so i would say put it upstairs but then again the TV is bigger downstairs so i dont know if i should have it downstairs instead. If i had it upstairs and i wanted to split the cable for another box which i would put downstairs, what cable do i get and where shall i run it?. or is it better to set it up downstairs and run a cable upstairs, but then again my TV downstairs is on the wall and the box will be on the floor, my current sky cable im using is the RF out with a normal ariel cable in order for it to reach, what will virgin do in this case if i chose to have it downstairs as scart wont reach!! please give advice on this guys im stuck
