Default DBox Freezing

I am posting on behalf of a friend, his box has stopped working. Basically when the box is switched on it goes onto some Babylon screen and it freezes, it then does not turn off unless the power is taken out. I do not know much about these boxes but it would be greatly appreciated if anyone could shed some light onto this situation.

Thanks in advance.

Is there really any difference between flashing using ifa or using the ftp method?

TwinTown.

On the subject of freezing. I recently posted a thread about my box waiting for time - which TwinTown kindly helped me out on and thought it may be my tuner (which I'm still hoping its not) due to me now getting some channels.
Now when I do a scan it only picks up about 40 channels or so and when I scan again it picks up zero. Each scan results in different number of channels (if any sometimes).
Anyway, the channels I do get - some intermittently freeze like sports channels but the very few movie channels I have managed to get do not.
Have tried changing ucodes and cams and set my location but still the same.
Does anyone know how to stop the freezing and how I am only get limited channels when scanning?
Thanks in advance!!

Hi TwinTown,

Yes I'm still using Commando 9 as this is the only image (I've tried 5 so far!!) that seems to get anything.
Set my location.
I always scan with fast scan off as I feel you get better results even though it takes longer.
I can ftp all relevant files etc to the box and try different images.
I am in the Edinburgh area.
So here I am with a prob I just cant rectify.
When I scan connected directly from the wall and no splitters my box sometimes sees some channels and when I try and do another scan I get nothing.
Like we spoke about yesterday TwinTown - the tuner seemed to be the prob until today when I started getting some channels, so I'm hoping you will tell me that its something else.
When I turn the dbox2 on at the mains it will boot up and sit there waiting for time and if I leave it for 5 - 10 mins the few channels I have appear...... it's driving me mad
Have tried all the cams and ucodes in different order but to no avail.
I have had this box working for over 2 years now and for some unknown reason it seems to have created a mind of its own.
Any knowledge and ideas would be gratefuly appreciated.

Hi

Check your ber snr and sig levels by pressing red then blue on most images and post results, I suspect you need a booster. The tuners probably weak and on way out booster should add some life to it.

Was just checking them as you posted

Ok my readings are as follows:-

BER
max - 262143
min - 51700

SNR
max - 60652
min- 54998

SIG
max - 44718
min - 44461

How do these readings look to you guys?

On the subject of the tuner ready to go - would I be correct in saying it needs a new transistor (bfg94)?

Thanks in advance guys

SNR must be above 55000. You're borderline mate, so get rid of any splitters or attenuators that are in line so that your input is optimal.
