I installed a Skystar 2 pci card last week. Although I can receive pictures on DVB Viewer I'm sure I'm not doing something right with the set-up.
If anyone's got the time and patience maybe they could answer some of these very basic questions. I have connected coax from the LNB to my motorised satellite receiver (Technomate), and then from the sat receiver to the computer. The software I'm using is DVB Viewer. Do I also use one of these RS232 leads to connect from receiver to computer? If the sat receiver drives the dish what do I use the Technisat remote for? Can the Skystar receive MPEG 2 stuff but not MPEG 4? What about DVB-2? The data services section. I haven't got a clue about this? Is it necessary? I just want to watch and record. Where do drivers that I've heard about fit into all this? Thanks very much. |

If you are connecting the SS2 card to the lnb out from the Technomate then the SS2 can only select channels from the same transponder that the Technomate is tuned to.
You really need a twin or quad lnb and take a separate cable from the lnb to the SS2. That way the SS2 can select any channel that the dish is pointed at. I dont know if your Technomate is able to use an emu. If it can, then you probably want the Techy and the PC networked so that the SS2 card can take advantage of the Techy emu and card(s) You can only drive the dish from one location otherwise the system can get it's knickers in a twist and lose positions. You may be able to control the Tecky via your PC in which case you use the PC. Otherwise it is necessary to select a satellite using the Techy. The SS2 remote control can be used to select a channel once the dish is pointing at the required satellite. The SS2 receives and decodes DBV-S transmissions but not DVB-S2. It can receive and decode the BBC HD and ITV HD channels. Windows need the Technisat drivers to recognise and make use of the SS2 card. I find that DVBDream is my currently fav programme fot the SS2.

Thanks, Jimdefruit. That's cleared up several things about the dish control and LNB connections. I can download the drivers from the Technisat website, can't I? Any ideas about the 'data services' point? Forgive my ignorance, but what is an'emu'? |

I've probably made matters worse.
![]() I decided in my wisdom to uninstall DVB TV Stars in order to reinstall and start again. However, I got this message when trying to reinstall, Found Windows XP Service Pack 3 ... Exit installation and upgrade to Service Pack 2 or higher Found Media Player 10.0 ... Okay Found DirectX 9 ... Okay The next page says, ' the wizard was terminated before DVB-PC TV Star could be installed. Some required components for this application are missing. To install this program at a late date please install the required components before running the program again.' Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

I assume you are trying the latest version 4.5 files but in case you are not, I have placed them in 'downloads' I have also put the DVBDream .15 file in 'uploads'. I currently find the DVBDream prog the best for sat tv on my pc.
If you can, try to ignore any messages that say its not installing properly because I find that it installs ok anyway.

Look in the first post of the UK cable section - private fta thread. The link is in satellite.
Also look at you PMs if you have access.
